Console workstations are interfaces to ONSPEC. Each console program connects the local ONSPEC into LSO.
Every console workstation has a sequence of startup duties to perform and a continuous loop of duties to perform once initialized successfully. A console workstation is a workstation that only sends and receives data that is pertinent to that workstation.
Console workstations do not hold staged data for other workstations on the network. The duties of a console workstation include sending exception-based data from a selected set of ONSPEC data up to its master workstation. It also is responsible for receiving data and placing it into the ONSPEC tables.
Lastly, if it is designated as a backup master workstation, it must be able to detect that its master is down and then switch modes to become a master.
