ONSPEC can be started by selecting the ONSPEC Icon from the Task Bar. You can also start ONSPEC from the command prompt. Log onto the \Onspec\Onspec subdirectory and at the command prompt type:
ONSPEC32
and press Enter.
When ONSPEC starts it default executes the OCL (ONSPEC Command Language) file ONCMD.OCL. This is a text file which contains commands that tell ONSPEC to load data bases, run applications, and other commands necessary at startup. For more information on OCL see ONSPEC Command Language.
You may place a copy of the ONSPEC shortcut to the Startup folder. Shortcuts can be modified to use a specific folder of user configuration files by modifying the target properties.
Example:
C:\Onspec\Onspec\Onspec32.exe -hC:\Onspec\Work\NewFiles
ONSPEC will use the path C:\Onspec\Work\NewFiles folder for the user configuration.
Startup Options
Specifying a Startup Folder
ONSPEC can be started from a different folder of user defined configuration files without reconfiguring defaults. To specify a different startup folder use the /H option as follows:
Onspec32 /HD:\Onspec\Work\NewFiles
ONSPEC will use the files in the path D:\Onspec\Work\NewFiles
Specifying a Startup File
The default initial copy of ONSPEC looks for and takes its startup instructions from ONCMD.OCL. Subsequent copies of ONSPEC look for a file named ONCMDV.OCL To select a different startup file use the /F option. For example if you started ONSPEC as follows:
ONSPEC32 /FSTART.OCL
ONSPEC will take its startup instructions from START.OCL
Specifying an Exit File
The default initial copy of ONSPEC looks for and takes its exit instructions from ONEXIT.OCL. Subsequent copies of ONSPEC look for a file named ONEXITV.OCL To select a different startup file use the /E option. For example if you started ONSPEC as follows:
Onspec32 /HD:\Onspec\Work\NewFiles
ONSPEC will use the files in the path D:\Onspec\Work\NewFiles
Selecting a Printer
ONSPEC automatically selects the default printer. To select a different printer use the /P option. For example if you started ONSPEC as follows:
ONSPEC32 /PPRINTER2
ONSPEC will send screen prints to the printer named PRINTER2.
ONSPEC Window Title
You can specify a string that is used in the title bar of a Window application. For example, if you wanted the string Reactor Demonstration to appear in the ONSPEC title bar you would start ONSPEC with this command line entry:
ONSPEC32 “Reactor Demonstration”
You can use any alphanumeric characters in the string. If you want quote marks to appear in the title you must use a back slash before each occurrence of the quote mark. For example, if you wanted the ONSPEC title bar to say ONSPEC “Reactor Demonstration” you would start ONSPEC with this command line entry:
ONSPEC32 “ONSPEC \“Reactor Demonstration\””
Configuring the ONSPEC Window
There are several startup options that allow you to configure the ONSPEC window. These options allow you to specify the window height, width, and placement on the screen.
/MIN Start ONSPEC as an icon. (minimized)
/MAX Start ONSPEC in full screen (maximized).
/HEIGHTn Start ONSPEC with the height specified by n, where n is a number from 0 to 100 indicating percentage of the total screen.
/WIDTHn Start ONSPEC with the width specified by n, where n is a number from 0 to 100 indicating percentage of the total screen.
/POSXn Start ONSPEC with the X coordinate position specified by n, where n is a number that locates the X for the bottom left corner of the ONSPEC window.
/POSYn Start ONSPEC with the Y coordinate position specified by n, where n is a number that locates the Y for the bottom left corner of the ONSPEC window.
You can chain these startup parameters, but you must insert a space between each one. If you include both /MIN and /MAX, the /MIN parameter will be used. If you provide the /POSX and /POSY, but do not provide /HEIGHT or /WIDTH, then the height and width will default to 75% of the total screen. If you do not provide the /POSX and /POSY, the top left corner of ONSPEC will automatically locate at the current position of the pointer. If you do not provide any of these parameters, the startup position for ONSPEC is provided by the operating system.
