This section guides you in the installation of the 1-For-3 Control Pack and shows you how to run the demonstration.

Installation

Step 1.

Install ONSPEC for Win32 following the ONSPEC installation procedures.

Step 2.

Make a backup copy of the Control Pack disk. To install, enter the following command at the Windows Run box:

   A:\SETUP

and follow the directions. The default selection will install the Control Pack to the ONSPEC Folder.

We recommend that you install the product to the ONSPEC BASE subdirectory. If you install the product to the DEMO subdirectory, the PIDS.IBM file there will be overwritten by the new one. Then the ONSPEC Demo will not work right.

Notice that you can still run ANN Demo from ONSPEC Demo icon because the Block 11 (ANN) and Block 12 (PID) have been configured in the demo PIDS.IBM file.

Files Included

The following files are included in the distribution disk:

  • CONPAK.EXE - the execution file,

  • PIDS.IBM - the ONSPEC PID record file that is pre-configured with 10 control blocks. (Block 11 to 20),

  • PXL075.IBM and DIS075.KEY - the ONSPEC Displays for ANN Demo,

  • CONPAK.ICO - the icon file,,

  • DEISLI.ISU - file for de-installation, and

  • ADME.CP - read me file with release notes. Use Notepad to read it.

Notice that you may need to copy the PIDS.IBM, PXL075.IBM, and DIS075.KEY files to the default ONSPEC directory. For instance, the C:\ONSPEC\WORK\BASE subdirectory.

Start and Stop the Program

Start from 1 For 3 Icon

Go to ONSPEC Folder and double click on the 1 For 3 Icon. It will start the Control Pack.

For Windows 95 or NT 4.0 users, you can start Control Pack using the Start Menu. If you need to see the ONSPEC Folder, point your mouse on the Start button, press right mouse button, and select Open. Then you can see the ONSPEC Folder from the Program Folder.

  Notice that the command line pre-defined for the 1 For 3 Icon is as follows:

    C:\ONSPEC\CONPAK\CONPAK.EXE /M

You can modify this command line by doing the following steps: click on the icon, press the right mouse button, select Properties, and select Shortcut page. The Target field shows the command line.

Start from MS-DOS Command Prompt

Open an MS-DOS prompt window and go to C:\ONSPEC\CONPAK directory and enter

    CONPAK

If you want to see the messages from the program, you should run the program in its monitor mode by entering:

    CONPAK /M

Stop the Program

The clean way to stop the Control Pack is to turn FLG[126] off. When ONSPEC quits, Control Pack will also shut down.

Run 1-For-3 ANN Controller Demo

Step 1.

Run ONSPEC and bring up Display 75 (or Display 76 for VGA Users). The demo includes two loops, one ANN and one PID. Each loop has a faceplate, a trend graph, a process model (1-5) selection slide, a toggle switch to turn controller on/off, and some controller parameter tuning boxes.

Step 2.

Click on F1 and F2 to get the controllers ready. Notice that the ONSPEC soft function key (F1 and F2) has been programmed to do the following changes. You can use ONBuild to see how the F1 and F2 keys are set.

  • Process Model is set to 2,

  • Output is raised to 40 percent,

  • The Setpoint Tracking is activated,

  • The Control Loop Switch is turned on.

Step 3.

If you have started the Control Pack properly, you should see that the Measured Variable starts to go up. Otherwise, start Control Pack by clicking its icon.

If you have regestered Control Pack properly, you can click on F5 of Display 75 to run the Control Pack. Notice that F5 is programmed to start Control Pack with the following command:

    run("conpak.exe /m");

You should do the same thing for both ANN and PID to compare the results of the two for the following steps 4 to 7.

Step 4.

Wait a while to let the Measured Variable track the Output. You can see that the Setpoint is tracking the MV. Here we are trying to do a bumpless transfer, so we want SP=MV before switching the controller from Manual to Auto.

Step 5.

Wait to see that the green (MV), red (OP), and blue (SP) lines are about the same height, click the Auto/Manual switch to close the loop.

Step 6.

Click on the Setpoint Tacking button to de-select the Setpoint Tracking option. Change the Setpoint by clicking and holding onto the blue arrow on the faceplate and moving up to about 50 percent.

Step 7.

View the loop response. Change Model to 1,3,4, and 5 and change setpoint to see the loop responses.

Step 8.

Click on F6 to stop the Control Pack after the demo.
